He'eia Stream Riparian Restoration

This project will work to restore native vegetation along ~2,000 feet of riparian habitat in He'eia Stream. In addition to native trees and vegetation the project includes installing erosion control techniques to address eroding stream banks. Additionally, HOK will work with the residents in the He'eia watershed regarding techniques to reduce fertilizers applied to individual lawns and other methods to improve watershed health. Hawai'i Pacific University professors and students are participating to implement water quality and project effectiveness monitoring.

Since December 2009, nearly 600 volunteers have dedicated more than 2000 hours to the He'eia Stream Restoration Project.

Workdays are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 8am to 12pm. View the project flyer for more details.

Project partners include: Kamehameha Schools, Hui Ku Maoli Ola, Papahana Kuaola, Hawai'i Pacific University, local residents and many dedicated volunteers.
